Week 10

oh man this is gonna be a very busy week! hanging out at the co-working space this morning, got an appointment with my retirement account guy tomorrow …
but the big thing is that Wednesday i start a temp job! and it’s at the university i most want to work for!

i get suggested meditation sometimes … but it just sounds unappealing to me … i do however doodle mindlessly a lot …

i have a huge collection of patches, of all shapes and sizes. some from my days as an actual boy scout … some from surplus/thrift stores … and a bunch from traveling around. some have perminent places on my backpack or tote bag … but a lot are just hanging out in drawers.
i found this book cover from my days of reading Dragonlance books in middle and high school (that’s when it got the cosmic ying-yan). i’ve slowly been adding patches to it, and finally did the big safety pin patch that is also a pocket!

i’ll probably end up holding the deck of tarot cards i have and the booklet that came with it …

Lemons into Lemonade

So on a social media site that shall remain nameless i follow a lot of queer artists, everything from full on smut to some very nice fine art painters and everything in between. Over the years i’ve talked to a few of them about things so when i got a message from an artist about using a photo of mine as the base for something i was excited to help.

so excited that i didn’t fully pay attention to what he was saying, and i follow a lot of international artists so i didn’t think too much of the grammar.

so i said of course and we chatted out some details. I have a bunch of other things going on so i let them do their thing. eventually they said everything was approved and they were going to send me a check for an amount that was plausible for a starting artist, and more importantly high enough that it would have helped me out a lot, even sent me a tracking number. but then the day it was supposed to arrive the tracking number stopped working.

i didn’t think that much of it, but they messaged again later that week and said things were back on track and gave me a new tracking number … and this one arrived first thing in the morning. but as i looked at the generic looking check floating alone in an oversized express envelope i realized there was no way this was real. i googled the names of the businesses on the check and envelope and didn’t find anything reasureing. so after i messaged him that i was totally off to the bank i put the check back in it’s envelop and got on with what i was doing …

but … i love making stuff out of dumb shit and when i thought about the idea of shredding the check i settled on an idea. then i let it sit for a week because … well life .. and stuff

but then i got momentum and put a new blade in my knife and got to work. cutting was the easy part … thankfully i wasn’t going for a nice crisp clean edges, because weving the little strips into their little slots caused a lot of fraying. there is also one bit i kind of messed up … it’s subtle but it actually works really well.

So the title of the piece is for sure “$4870.68”
and in theory the price of the piece (which i’m getting a frame for when i’ve got the budget) is also $4870.68 because that would still make a huge difference in my life … but i’m also open to other offers …

Week 9 ...

this week is potentially gonna be a little busy too … but i’m on top of it already …

In Progress: Scam

So i almost got roped into depositing a scam check and whatever nightmares that would have entailed … but … i also got inspired. So, i took the check and the express shipping envelope and label and started cutting and weaving …

i should be done with it this week. i’m trying to decided if the cost of the piece should be the value of the check … but does anyone want to give me $5,000 for real?

Proof of concept that i could get the check to weave and that my template was roughly in the right place

Week L8te

last week was weird and busy and i’m still not good at posting here regularly … but the journal is still going strong!

one of the reasons last week was busy was that Monday was my mom’s birthday … her favorite flowers are daisies so this is how i started the week.

I also helped out a second day at this co-working space in town i’m trying to network at

i also had to go to my monthly unemployment check in which was a bummer because i’m running out … but it got to take the train up so that’s nice

i also walked over the bridge near my house for the first time in a while. (and realized it’s maybe not named for the Hamilton Fish i thought it was … but his grandad … stupid people and their first and second and thirds!)

i mean i do a lot of walking! and this is the second bandana i’ve found while wandering this month! i’m also working on a new drink for this game group i’m running!

i’ve been doing some studio clean up and trying to get rid of scraps and little projects …

I’m also at work on this piece i’m making out of a scam check that i got … which will be it’s whole own post eventually …

Week 7

the family has been bouncing around a flue for most of the last two weeks … but i’m still keeping at it …

Drawing Drinks

i’m a very big fan of fancy cocktails, for a while i had a friend who was even in the Bartenders Guild and so i got to try all sorts of neat stuff …

while i dance around a bunch of projects, unfortunately still including job hunting, i’ve been using the idea of cocktails and fancy speakeasy style bars to brainstorm and sketch out some fun stuff.
